Position

Summer Laborer

Job Description

Essential job functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists with Forestry Division activities including planting, weeding, mulching, and general care of landscape beds, medians, pots and planters throughout the Village; maintaining the urban forest; brush collection; preparing civic displays; and landscape improvements.
  • Assists with Streets Division activities including maintaining and repairing streets, sidewalks and parking lots; maintaining Village signage; and installing temporary signage for special events.
  • Assists with Utilities Division activities including hydrant flushing, sewer flushing, valve exercising, and creek maintenance.
  • Operates a variety of light-duty trucks and equipment in the repair, maintenance and construction of public works water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer systems, streets, and urban forest.
  • Inspects and maintains vehicles and equipment; reports malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Assists with the preparations and tear down/cleanup for events, festivals, and special functions.
Qualifications
  • Ability to operate vehicles, equipment and machinery such as light-duty trucks, hand and power tools, mowers, string trimmers, brush chippers, hedge trimmers, and chain saws.
  • Ability to tolerate both inside and outside environmental conditions. Position is performed under fluctuating and extreme temperatures, with some exposure to noise.
  • Must be eligible for employment in the U.S. and pass a pre-employment background check and medical and drug screening (including cannabis).
Education, Experience and Licenses
  • Must be 18 or older and enrolled as a full-time student in college for fall 2026.
  • Possession of a valid Illinois driver's license is required.
Salary

$16.50 per hour.

Hours

Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m.

- 3:30 p.m.

Employment Duration

3 months (summer).
