Overview

The Village of Palatine Police Department is seeking a part-time Desk Community Service Officer. This position will work at the front desk of the Police Department. Community Service Officers for the Palatine Police Department staff the front desk 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as initial Department contact for citizens who come to the Police Department by answering questions, directing people to the appropriate offices, and providing necessary forms as required with the emphasis upon citizen satisfaction in the spirit of the philosophy of Neighborhood Based Policing.
  • Answer and screen incoming telephone calls; provide information or answer questions; take messages; and/or, route calls to the appropriate individuals.
  • Relay calls for the dispatch of police personnel to NWCDS or, in exigent situations, dispatch units directly.
  • Monitor radio traffic and, in exigent situations, provide emergency dispatching backup to NWCDS.
  • Control access to the police lockup and monitor the closed-circuit television system during the processing and housing of prisoners or when directed by the watch commander.
  • Relay non-emergency, administration radio dispatches to police personnel in the field.
  • Receive and process requests for information from field personnel.
  • Input incident information into the RMS system, coordinate the paperwork flow for their tour of duty.
  • Coordinate the animal impound, overnight parking, and vehicle tow processes.
  • Perform any clerical or record keeping duties as directed by the Technical Services Supervisor.
  • Perform any police assistant duties as directed by any supervisory or command personnel.
  • Monitor LEADS communications and respond accordingly.
  • In exigent circumstances make physical checks on prisoners in lock up.
  • Receive packages after hours.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma is required.
  • One year experience in the same job field is helpful or prior experience in a fast-paced environment involving communications under pressure.
  • Must be able to demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Requires a strong work ethic.
  • Bilingual and/or previous law enforcement experience a plus, but not required.
Salary

$25.98 per hour.

Hours

Duty hours will be 10:45 PM - 7:15 AM, Friday nights into Saturday mornings and Saturday nights into Sunday morning, working 8 hours per day, for a total of 16 hours per week.
