The Deputy Superintendent of Leadership and Learning will embody the district mission, serving the needs of our diverse community by providing relevant and rigorous learning experiences, opportunities for involvement, and strong support systems that empower all students to reach their full potential, while upholding our values of communication and accountability, equity and inclusion, financial integrity, innovative learning, and safety, wellness, and respect.
PositionPurpose
Provides executive leadership and operational oversight to advance the Superintendent's vision, goals, and policies. Organizes, coordinates, and directs district wide initiatives and special projects; drives improvement of systems that increase student achievement and well‑being; builds coalitions and represents the Superintendent with students, families, staff, community partners, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications- Doctorate degree in an education discipline
- Ten or more years of progressive educational administrative experience, including school and district leadership at an executive level
- Demonstrated experience leading design, implementation, and management of large, diverse district wide systems that produced measurable improvements in student achievement
- Strong leadership and organizational effectiveness with a record of managing multiple complex roles and responsibilities
- Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, and team‑building skills
- Hold or be eligible to hold appropriate Illinois license/certification
- Lead design, implementation, and continuous improvement of integrated district systems (curriculum, instruction, assessment, special education, MTSS, social‑emotional supports) to produce measurable gains in student learning and equity.
- Translate the district mission and cabinet priorities into coherent operational plans, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
- Oversee progress monitoring and reporting on Superintendent goals; recommend course corrections and resource reallocations.
- Ensure rigorous, culturally responsive, standards‑aligned curriculum and high‑quality instruction across grades, courses, and programs.
- Partner with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction on professional learning, educator evaluation alignment, and evidence‑based pedagogical strategies.
- Promote innovative learning models and effective use of technology to expand access and engagement.
- Oversee student support systems including special education, mental health and behavioral supports, attendance interventions, and safety/wellness initiatives.
- Work with the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services to ensure compliance, individualized supports, and inclusive practices that remove barriers to student success.
- Center equity and inclusion in all planning, policy, staffing, and resource decisions; disaggregate data to surface opportunity gaps and prioritize strategies for underserved learners.
- Build partnerships with families, community organizations, and advocacy groups; lead community engagement for major initiatives and policy changes.
- Serve as a visible, responsive representative of the Superintendent with diverse stakeholder groups.
- Maintain a transparent, timely communication cabinet, principals, staff, families, and community partners.
- Develop and manage data dashboards, progress reports, and presentations to communicate outcomes and fiscal/operational impacts.
- Establish clear metrics, accountability structures, and performance monitoring for direct reports and district initiatives.
- Partner with Finance and other cabinet members to align budgetary decisions with instructional priorities and equity goals.
- Support grant strategy and ensure responsible stewardship of resources tied to learning and student services.
- Typical administrative hours; attendance at evening Board and community meetings required
- Travel between district/school sites; occasional state/national travel for conferences
- Compensation, benefits, and contract terms per district cabinet‑level policy
$220,000 to $240,000
