Domestic Violence Shelter Family Advocate

Forbes House is a nonprofit domestic violence shelter based in Lake County, Ohio, dedicated to providing survivor-centered and trauma-informed care. The organization supports individuals and families through emergency safe shelter, counseling services, housing assistance, legal aid, and community resources. Forbes House focuses on empowering survivors to break the cycle of domestic violence and create thriving lives. Through education and advocacy, the organization aims to foster a safer, violence-free community.

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Domestic Violence Shelter Family Advocate located in Painesville, OH. The Family Advocate will provide direct support and advocacy to survivors of domestic violence and their families. Responsibilities include case management, resource navigation, crisis intervention, and developing safety plans. The role also involves facilitating educational programs, coordinating with community resources, and fostering a safe and supportive environment for survivors.

• Strong communication skills for engaging with survivors, families, and community partners
• Experience with case management and familiarity with supporting survivors in crisis
• Background in Social Work, Community Outreach, or Criminal Justice
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external organizations
• Empathy, cultural competence, and a commitment to supporting individuals affected by domestic violence
• Relevant experience in a shelter or crisis intervention environment is highly desirable
• Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, or related field is preferred but not required
