Operator - Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Wastewater Treatment Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining technical devices, pumps, instruments, and treatment equipment to control processes and monitor the plant to ensure discharge compliance.
Essential Job Functions- Operate equipment, instruments, pumps, valves, etc. associated with Preliminary Treatment, Secondary Treatment, Post Treatment, Chemical Treatment, Anaerobic Digestion and Biosolids Treatment/Dewatering.
- Perform general housekeeping, including process equipment, buildings, tanks and channels.
- Conduct routine plant rounds to inspect processes and equipment for proper operating conditions.
- Report deficiencies to supervisor or senior operator immediately.
- Takes readings of pressures, levels, volumes, flows, and weights to monitor operation efficiency and records the data.
- Collect samples and operate automatic sampling equipment for wastewater analysis and NPDES permit sampling and reporting requirements.
- Adjust operational processes to maintain or achieve discharge compliance.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
- OEPA Class I or higher Wastewater Certification, or the ability to successfully complete a state-sponsored wastewater examination within 18 months of employment.
- Good working knowledge of mathematics, excellent written and verbal communication skills, basic computer skills, and the ability to learn principles and practices used in wastewater treatment.
- Physical labor, maintaining neat and accurate records, and availability to work various shifts in a 24‑hour operation, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to multi‑task, problem solve, work with various teams, and be self‑motivated and goal oriented.
Full Time. Base Rate: $18.25/hr. (no OEPA Wastewater License) $20.50 – $27.71/hr. (with OEPA Wastewater License).
- Class I License Premium: $1.50/hr.
- Class II License Premium: $1.75/hr.
- Class III License Premium: $2.25/hr.
- 2nd Shift Premium (shift starting at or after 12:00pm): $1.50/hr.
- 3rd Shift Premium (shift starting at or after 8:00pm): $3.00/hr.
- Saturday/Sunday Premium: $2.25/hr.
Additional premiums may compound. Rates are subject to time and a half (1.5x) for overtime.
