By joining our Traffic Engineering & Permits Section, as a Highway Technician Assistant I in McCracken County, you ll have the opportunity to be an active team member in long-term highway maintenance activities and improvements along state maintained routes.
Responsibilities- Operating equipment:
Learn to operate a small single axle dump truck to haul materials and assist with snow removal efforts; learn to operate a tractor with mowing machine. - Brush cutting and tree maintenance:
Perform brush cutting operations using chain saws, bush axes, or chemical treatments to ensure clear visibility and safety on roadways. - Traffic control:
Flag traffic for maintenance crews during operations to guarantee the safety of team members and the traveling public. - Roadway repair:
Shovel blacktop and perform other roadway maintenance related activities as required. - Equipment maintenance:
Assist with performing minor repairs and maintenance on equipment.
- The ideal candidate will hold a high school diploma or GED.

Additional position information:
Interested applicants must possess the ability to work, sit, stoop and bend along with ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and must be able to respond to emergencies.

Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver s license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees in this classification must furnish the agency s appointing authority with documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver s license.
Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions
Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area, and when necessary, district wide.
