About the Opportunity
A well-established and evolving healthcare organization is seeking a Director of Finance to provide strategic financial leadership, partner with operational leaders, and drive financial planning across the organization. With ongoing organizational changes and newly implemented financial controls, this role offers the opportunity to influence processes, strengthen financial operations, and support continued performance improvement across the hospital system.
The ideal candidate brings strong communication skills, a collaborative approach, the ability to adapt to change, and a background in healthcare financial planning, budgeting, or public accounting.
Position SummaryThe Director of Finance will oversee financial planning, budgeting, operational analysis, and strategic decision support. This role partners closely with department directors and executive leadership to understand operational needs, analyze financial performance, and support effective resource allocation. This position is not focused on general ledger or month-end accounting; instead, it emphasizes budgeting, forecasting, financial operations, and organizational decision support.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide financial leadership across the organization, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process, including detailed variance analysis.
Approve FTE requests and discretionary spending based on financial and operational analysis.
Meet regularly with department directors to understand operational challenges and provide financial insight and guidance.
Support year-end close activities (fiscal year ending August 31), ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Review financial performance, develop reports, and communicate insights to senior leadership.
Adapt to evolving processes, new financial controls, and changing organizational structures.
Identify opportunities to streamline processes, strengthen controls, and improve department efficiency.
Partner with cross-functional teams to support operational initiatives and ensure financial accountability.
Serve as a mentor and resource to finance team members; new hire will also receive mentorship from another hospital for onboarding and long-term success.
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Analytics, Business, or related field.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in finance, accounting, budgeting, or financial planning.
Healthcare experience required
; hospital experience strongly preferred.Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to collaborate across diverse personalities and foster a positive team dynamic.
Receptive to coaching and open to implementing new processes, rather than relying solely on past employer methods.
Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and suggest process improvements.
Proficiency with Excel
; experience with People Soft and/or familiarity with financial planning systems (Strata experience a plus).
On-site role with flexibility for occasional life needs.
Department is undergoing frequent change and refinement of financial/operational controls.
Typical workday is 8 hours with a strong commitment to work-life balance.
Occasional extended hours required, particularly during budget season (limited duration).
