Part-time hours will typically be Monday - Friday, 3:30 pm - 7:30 pm.
Classification DescriptionUnder the supervision of Public Works staff, cleans and maintains City buildings and facilities according to safety rules and Public Works Department (PWD) standards.
Responsibilities- Performs custodial and janitorial duties in City facilities; duties may vary according to job assignment.
- Follows all safety rules and regulations, and cleans up spills and unsafe conditions in a timely manner.
- Cleans floors, walls, and windows using manual and power equipment; empties trash receptacles; cleans sidewalks and entrance ways; moves furniture and equipment; sets up and tears down equipment and facilities for special events and activities.
- Cleans and disinfects restrooms; sanitizes toilets, sinks, and fixtures; restocks restroom supplies.
- Performs job duties within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations.
- Learns a variety of PWD maintenance work methods and procedures.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Pacific Grove and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
Knowledge Of- City policies and procedures.
- Safe work practices, occupational hazards, and safety precautions in public facilities.
- Safety data sheets and proper usage of cleaning supplies.
- Using basic tools in a safe and effective manner.
- Following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Understanding and following safety policies and procedures.
A valid California State Driver's License may be required.
Physical Demands And Working EnvironmentWork is performed indoors and outdoors; requires moderate physical efforts; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment.
Conditions of Employment- Required to take an Oath of Office.
- City employees are disaster relief workers in the event of natural disasters or emergency conditions.
- As part of the selection process, all individuals provided with a preliminary offer of employment will be subject to a background investigation, including a criminal history check. An image of your fingerprints will be captured and sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history, if any, will be evaluated along with the other information received in connection with your application.
Except as otherwise required by law, a criminal conviction will not necessarily disqualify you from the position. The nature of the offense, the date of the offense, the surrounding circumstances, and the relevance of the offense to the position applied for may, however, be considered.
THIS IS A NON-BENEFITED POSITION WITH AN ANNUAL SCHEDULE CAP OF 960 HOURS PER FISCAL YEAR.
Part-time employees must contribute 7.5% of base pay to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS).
The City does not participate in Social Security except for the mandatory Medicare Program.
