Medical Assistant

Join Med Star Health as a Medical Assistant in our outpatient clinical team. The role is full time, 40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, 8:30 am‑5 pm, located at 6710 Oxon Hill Road Suite 250, Oxon Hill, MD 20745.

The Medical Assistant performs clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse. Responsibilities include venipuncture, medication and vaccine administration, vital sign measurement, assistance with patient exams, and clerical support. The position may float to other sites within Med Star Health.

• Contribute to department goals, adhering to policies, procedures, quality, and safety standards.
• Assist providers with patient examination preparation, office procedures, and patient education; manage variable patient volume and provide clerical support.
• Participate in daily team huddles; screen patients for preventive care needs, safety concerns, and fall risk; conduct surveillance for transitions of care.
• Conduct motivational interviews and screening for disease management and behavioral health needs.
• Report actual and potential problems per Med Star Health reporting protocols; participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards; maintain temperature logs and medication supplies; keep emergency equipment area clear.
• Engage in population management and patient self‑management support; capture health improvement activities.
• Perform selected patient and laboratory testing per scope of practice; document all activities in EMR.
• Provide escort and discharge assistance; chaperone patients per policy.
• Manage environmental and infection prevention responsibilities, including cleaning and equipment maintenance.
• Provide telephone screening services; document disposition per protocols.
• Under supervision, insert IV catheters, urinary catheters, and administer medications; perform phlebotomy.
• Utilize EMR to propose medication refills; complete requisitions for tests; contact insurers for pre‑authorizations.
• Float to other system sites; attend staff meetings and required training (OSHA, CLIA, BLS).
• Demonstrate Med Star Health values and patient care philosophy.

• High School Diploma or GED (required). Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Less than 1 year experience in an ambulatory care medical office (required); externship preferred;
  Med Star Health externship may substitute.
• For Cardiology offices, 6 months experience or a Bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology/science or cardiac technician course (preferred).
• Prior experience as a medical assistant preferred.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) within 1 year required.
• CPR (BLS/NRP) certification within 90 days required.

• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) within 1 year required.
• CPR (BLS/NRP) within 90 days required.
• Additional specialty certifications may vary by department.

• Clinical competency verified within 90‑day orientation and annually thereafter.
• Excellent patient interaction and customer service skills.
• Basic computer skills preferred.

USD $19.55‑$34.25 per hour.
