Located in Oxnard, California, AST operates out of cutting-edge facilities spanning over 250,000 sq. ft., including our newest expansion completed in 2024. AST employs approximately 185 skilled professionals across multi-shift operations, ensuring efficiency, precision, and timely delivery for mission-critical industries.
Position OverviewWe are looking for an experienced CNC Mill Machinist to set up and operate CNC milling machines in a fast-paced production environment. This position is responsible for executing precise milling operations, editing programs, setting tooling, and inspecting complex parts with tight tolerances. The ideal candidate is self-sufficient, mechanically inclined, and focused on maintaining consistent quality and productivity.
Key Responsibilities- Set up and run CNC mills based on job specifications
- Read and interpret blueprints, layouts, and setup documentation to determine part requirements
- Select appropriate tooling, set tool offsets, and verify part dimensions using precision measuring instruments
- Make minor edits to CNC programs to ensure optimal machining results
- Inspect first-run and in-process parts to confirm dimensional accuracy and compliance
- Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions as needed
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance with company policies
- Assist with developing and refining milling processes and setup sheets for repeat jobs
- Communicate with engineers, supervisors, and other team members to meet production goals
- 5+ years of experience operating and setting up CNC milling machines
- Ability to read G-code and make minor program edits
- Strong understanding of milling principles, fixtures, and tooling
- Ability to read complex engineering drawings and interpret tolerances
- Experience in a job shop or high-mix production environment is preferred
- Strong inspection skills using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools
- Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs and work on your feet for long periods
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional machining coursework is a plus
