Advanced Structural Technologies (AST) is a leading manufacturer specializing in forged, flow‑formed, and machined products for the aerospace, defense, and automotive industries. With over 25 years of experience, AST has built a strong reputation for precision engineering, innovation, and high‑quality manufacturing.

Located in Oxnard, California, AST operates out of a cutting‑edge facility spanning over 250,000 sq. ft., including our newest expansion completed in 2024. AST employs approximately 195 skilled professionals across multi‑shift operations, ensuring efficiency, precision, and timely delivery for mission‑critical industries.

Position Overview

We are seeking a hands‑on and results‑driven Production Manager to lead day‑to‑day operations in our VTL machining department. This individual will be responsible for overseeing personnel, production schedules, and job execution, ensuring parts are moving, spindles are turning, and delivery timelines are met. The ideal candidate has prior manufacturing experience, a strong understanding of shop floor operations, and the leadership skills needed to drive team performance and accountability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise VTL machining production to ensure jobs are executed on time, with high quality and efficiency
  • Monitor and manage workflow, labor allocation, machine utilization, and job priorities throughout the day
  • Maintain clear communication between production, engineering, and quality departments
  • Track job status and ensure parts are staged, released, and delivered according to schedule
  • Support first‑shift operations across VTL machining production, assisting in troubleshooting delays or issues as they arise
  • Monitor key performance metrics such as machine uptime, throughput, and schedule adherence
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members while enforcing expectations and accountability
  • Participate in daily production meetings and communicate shift‑level performance updates to leadership
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to resolve machine issues and reduce downtime
  • Uphold a culture of safety, cleanliness, and continuous improvement across the floor

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment; machining or CNC experience strongly preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory or team leadership role
  • Strong understanding of production planning, workflow, and shop floor execution
  • Hands‑on mindset and willingness to spend time on the floor leading from the front
  • Proven ability to coordinate across departments and motivate teams to meet targets
  • Experience working with ERP systems, production tracking, and job travelers
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or coursework in manufacturing or operations management preferred

Job Type & Pay

  • Pay Range: $100,000 – $135,000 per year (commensurate with experience)
