The City of Oxnard's Public Works Department is seeking qualified candidates for City Traffic Engineer and Senior Traffic Engineer positions. Applications are accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis.
These leadership and technical roles offer the opportunity to shape the City’s transportation network, enhance traffic safety, and support mobility initiatives serving a dynamic and growing community.
Position OverviewDepending on qualifications and experience, selected candidates will perform a combination of advanced professional engineering, program management, and leadership responsibilities in the areas of traffic operations, capital project delivery, and transportation planning.
The City Traffic Engineer reports directly to the City Engineer and oversees a team of nine full-time employees and consultants. The Senior Traffic Engineer provides advanced technical expertise, project management, and design leadership for traffic engineering initiatives and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects.

Minimum QualificationsThe following are the minimum qualifications necessary for entry into the classification:
City Traffic EngineerEducation:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or directly related field
Experience:
- Five (5) years of professional engineering and/or construction/project management experience and two (2) years of supervisory experience
Licensing/
Certifications:
- California Professional Engineering (Civil) Registration or Registration as a California Traffic Engineer required upon hire or within the first twelve months of employment.
- Valid California Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
Other Requirements:
- Must be able to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or directly related field
Experience:
- Five (5) years of professional engineering and/or construction/project management experience in area of assignment. Incumbents assigned to traffic engineering require experience in traffic signal design and transportation planning
Licensing/
Certifications:
- California Professional Engineering (PE) Registration
- California Professional Traffic Engineering (TE) registration
- Valid California Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record
