RoleService Technician – Oxford region
OverviewSchindler is seeking a Service Technician based in our Coventry Office and covering the Midlands & South West area, specifically the Oxford region. The role involves planning and executing preventative maintenance, safety inspections, fault reduction, minor repairs, and lifecycle component replacement on lift and escalator equipment.
Responsibilities- Carrying out routine servicing of lift/escalator equipment, including minor repairs and routine component replacement, in accordance with approved procedures (PPE, PDA, Expert, etc.).
- Rectifying faults on lift/escalator equipment during breakdowns and verifying correct functioning.
- Performing function checks, such as speed, motor start/stop, weight, noise, temperature, and power supplies using approved company tools and protective equipment.
- Conducting routine inspections and adjustments of lift/escalator equipment per approved procedures.
- Reinstating lift/escalator equipment and completing service documentation.
- Executing advanced fault‑finding and diagnostic procedures using tools, technical manuals, and test equipment to restore equipment to service.
- Carrying out site surveys and attending all relevant training sessions to keep technical knowledge and skills current.
- Adhering to Schindler’s safety and environmental policies, ensuring compliance with UK legal requirements and Schindler Group safety standards.
- Contributing to safety objectives by maintaining current safety systems and implementing agreed changes to the safety management system.
- Experience in lift/escalator servicing/maintenance/repairs preferred.
- NVQ Level 3 (minimum) in lift/escalator maintenance or equivalent qualification.
- Willingness to pursue Schindler Certification Level 3 Red.
- Advanced electrical and mechanical knowledge, including multi‑brand equipment.
- Advanced problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and operate efficiently.
- Capacity to work independently with a flexible approach.
- Strong communication skills at all levels (client, service leader, inspector).
- Manual dexterity – capable of repetitive lifting and operating hand and power tools.
- Proven fault‑finding and diagnostic skills.
- Good administration skills and punctuality.
- Full UK driving licence.
