Overview
University of Oxford – Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine (IDRM)
Oxford, United Kingdom (Old Road Campus)
General Description The Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine (IDRM) at the University of Oxford invites applications for the IDRM Transition Fellowship, a career development opportunity designed to support outstanding researchers at an intermediate stage of their careers as they transition toward research independence.
The fellowship is open to both clinicians and basic scientists whose research aligns with the Institute’s core scientific themes: cardiovascular science, neuroscience, and immunology. The programme aims to enable a talented researcher to establish a strong independent research trajectory while developing a competitive external fellowship application.
The selected fellow will be provided with funding support for up to two years to facilitate relocation to Oxford and integration into the Institute’s research community. The fellowship provides a funding envelope of up to £200,000 to support research activities, including costs associated with research personnel, consumables, and travel for conferences or collaborative research placements. The fellow’s salary is separate from this research budget.
During the fellowship period, the successful candidate will develop pilot data, build collaborations, and prepare a major external fellowship application. Applicants who secure external fellowship funding during or following the programme may be invited to establish an independent research group within the Institute. The programme includes mentorship, career development training, and opportunities to supervise and recruit undergraduate and postgraduate researchers within the University of Oxford.
The fellow will benefit from the collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment of the Old Road Campus, which includes partnerships with leading institutes such as the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics, the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, the Big Data Institute, the Target Discovery Institute, and the Bio Escalator, alongside broader research collaborations across the University of Oxford.
The recruitment process involves two stages. In the first stage, long-listed candidates will participate in a “Chalk and Talk” presentation outlining their research vision for the next five years and how it aligns with the goals of the Institute. Shortlisted candidates will subsequently be invited to present an open seminar and engage with IDRM research group leaders to discuss their research plans and collaborative potential.
