General Description –
The University of Oxford is seeking a Postdoctoral Neuroscientist for a full-time, fixed-term research post within its world‑leading neuroscience research environment. Situated in Oxford’s Medical Sciences Division, the position will contribute to advanced research into neural mechanisms underlying cognition, behaviour, clinical conditions or related functional processes using state‑of‑the‑art approaches. The role sits within a multidisciplinary team where the postholder will design and execute experimental studies, acquire and analyse neural datasets, and collaborate with colleagues across research groups.
Research activities may involve electrophysiology, imaging, behavioural paradigms and computational methods to investigate neuronal circuits and systems relevant to memory, decision‑making, clinical phenotypes or flexible brain function. The environment combines access to cutting‑edge facilities, collaborative networks, and a strong culture of scholarly excellence that supports dissemination through peer‑reviewed publications and presentations.
Eligibility Criteria
- A doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in neuroscience, neurobiology, physiology, psychology, computational neuroscience or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated research experience in neuroscience or a related field, with a strong academic record suitable for a postdoctoral appointment.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic research team.
Required Expertise/Skills
- Proficiency in experimental neuroscience techniques relevant to the research theme, which may include electrophysiological recording, calcium imaging, optogenetics, behavioural testing, or other systems neuroscience methods.
- Strong quantitative analysis skills, including programming (e.g., Python or MATLAB) and statistical data interpretation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for scientific reporting, manuscript preparation and presentations.
- Capacity to handle multiple aspects of project design, data collection, and research documentation in compliance with ethical and scientific standards.
Salary Details –
The postdoctoral neuroscientist position is typically appointed at Research Grade 7 with a salary range commonly around £38,674 to £46,913 per annum
, with potential adjustment based on qualifications and experience (and possible underfill at a lower grade if appropriate).
