Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Impact Engineering - Composite Modelling Aerospace Appli

We are seeking a full‑time Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join our Impact and Shock Mechanics research group at the Department of Engineering Science (Begbroke Science Park). The post is funded by ATi/Innovate UK and Rolls Royce and is fixed‑term to June 2029.

• Advancing numerical modelling methodologies, including AI‑assisted surrogate models
• Designing and conducting impact experiments for model validation
• Developing research proposals and leading individual research projects
• Analysing complex data and generating original research ideas
• Publishing in high‑impact journals and presenting at international conferences
• Contributing to group strategy, funding applications, and collaborative projects
• Liaising with funding bodies and representing the research group externally
• Supporting laboratory capability, protocols, and scientific guidance within the team

• A PhD/DPhil (or near completion) in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field
• Strong expertise in composite materials, their deformation and failure, and finite element modelling for impact applications
• Experience with high‑rate experimental methods and CAD/solid‑modelling tools
• A strong publication record and experience presenting to external audiences
• Excellent project‑management skills and the ability to work independently
• Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines and with external partners
