About the Role Job overview

Ready for a truly rewarding career? We are hosting a Recruitment Day on Tuesday 24th March 2026 in Oxford for Newly Qualified Nurses into the District Nursing service.

Whether you're new to the field or have years of experience, we have a range of permanent, full-time, and part-time positions open across various locations across Oxfordshire. Our service hours are from 8am until 6.30pm seven days a week. We are keen to explore the art of the possible with hours, locality and your availability.

Do you want the privilege of visiting patients in their own homes to deliver increasingly complex, holistic care? If yes, District Nursing may be the right career choice for you with the added bonus of no night shifts.

There will be a team near you that would wholeheartedly welcome you to join them.

All levels of experience are welcome in District Nursing
- Don’t believe the old wives tales about needing to work on a ward first. Whether you are newly qualified or looking for a change in direction and a more challenging role, we would welcome your application for this exciting opportunity to join the district nursing world.

We'll need you to have excellent communication skills with positive attitude. We share a caring, non-judgmental and inclusive attitude, committed to the delivery of safe, high-quality care.

Please note that this recruitment day is by invitation only and is open exclusively to applicants who have successfully passed the screening stage.

Main duties of the job

As a Community Nurse, you will be supported to develop into an autonomous practitioner, delivering care to patients with complex healthcare needs in their own homes.

District Nursing is a highly specialised field of practice, recognised by the Queen’s Nursing Institute and the NMC as a specialist role. As a Community Staff Nurse, you will work within a neighbourhood team including District Nurse Team Leaders, Community Staff Nurses, Therapists, Assistant Practitioners, HCA's and phlebotomists. Together, you will support patients in the community and help prevent unnecessary admissions to acute services.

A typical day begins with careful planning, reviewing patient needs and coordinating visits. Throughout the day, you will bring clinical expertise directly into people’s homes and clinic settings; changing dressings, managing medications, supporting long-term conditions and reassuring families.

No two visits are the same. One moment may involve delivering complex clinical care; the next, providing calm support during a difficult time. Using mobile technology and digital systems, working in an agile and responsive way, updating records in real time and staying connected with multidisciplinary colleagues.

At the heart of the role is relationship-building. You become a vital source of support for individuals who may see few others. The role combines compassion, independence, adaptability and smart technology to help people remain safe, comfortable and independent at home.
