Newly Qualified Nurses - District Nursing

Ready for a truly rewarding career? We are hosting a Recruitment Day on Tuesday 24th March 2026 in Oxford for Newly Qualified Nurses into the District Nursing service.

Whether you're new to the field or have years of experience, we have a range of permanent, full-time, and part-time positions open across various locations in Oxfordshire. Our service hours are from 8am until 6.30pm, seven days a week. We are keen to explore the art of the possible with hours, locality and your availability.

Do you want the privilege of visiting patients in their own homes to deliver increasingly complex, holistic care? If yes, District Nursing may be the right career choice for you with the added bonus of no night shifts. A team near you will wholeheartedly welcome you to join them. All levels of experience are welcome; you don't need to work on a ward first.

Please note that this recruitment day is by invitation only and is open exclusively to applicants who have successfully passed the screening stage.

Job Summary

We are recruiting for newly qualified nursing roles across the following locations:

  • Abingdon
  • Wallingford
  • Oxford City
  • Bicester
  • Banbury
  • Witney
Main Duties of the Job

As a Community Nurse, you will be supported to develop into an autonomous practitioner, delivering care to patients with complex healthcare needs in their own homes.

District Nursing is a highly specialised field of practice recognised by the Queen's Nursing Institute and the NMC as a specialist role.

Working within a neighbourhood team including District Nurse Team Leaders, Community Staff Nurses, Therapists, Assistant Practitioners, HCAs and phlebotomists, you will support patients in the community and help prevent unnecessary admissions to acute services.

A typical day begins with careful planning, reviewing patient needs and coordinating visits. Throughout the day you will provide clinical expertise directly in people's homes and clinic settings: changing dressings, managing medications, supporting long‑term conditions and reassuring families.

Each visit presents a unique set of challenges. You may deliver complex clinical care one day and provide calm support the next. You will use mobile technology and digital systems, work in an agile and responsive way, update records in real time and stay connected with multidisciplinary colleagues.

Relationship‑building is central to the role; you become a vital source of support for individuals who may see few others.
