IT Infrastructure Officer
We are seeking an experienced and proactive IT Infrastructure Officer to manage and develop core IT systems and infrastructure within a complex academic environment. This role combines infrastructure management, systems administration, user support and project delivery to ensure reliable, secure and efficient IT services.
The position is set to commence ASAP and will be full-time for an initial duration of 12 weeks with a pay rate of £18.80 per hour + holiday pay.
Key Duties IT Infrastructure Management- Manage, maintain and develop networks, servers, storage systems and core infrastructure services
- Ensure high availability, reliability and security of systems
- Monitor performance, capacity and security, implementing improvements where required
- Oversee lifecycle management of IT hardware and infrastructure assets
- Support and manage Windows and macOS desktop and laptop environments
- Deploy, configure and maintain devices using appropriate management tools
- Ensure consistent patching, updates and endpoint security
- Support teaching and research environments, including specialist IT requirements
- Provide day-to-day IT support and troubleshoot hardware, software and network issues
- Support and liaise with central IT services as required
- Lead or contribute to initiatives to standardise systems and improve efficiency
- Contribute to infrastructure planning and technology convergence projects
- Work collaboratively within a small IT team and wider IT networks
- Engage with academic and professional staff to understand requirements
- Liaise with third-party suppliers for procurement and support
- Contribute to infrastructure upgrades, migrations and system implementations
- Maintain documentation of systems and procedures
- Proven experience in IT infrastructure support and systems administration
- Strong experience supporting Windows and macOS environments
- Good knowledge of networks, servers and core services (e.g. Active Directory, DNS, DHCP)
- Experience providing IT support within a complex organisation
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly to varied audiences
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage competing priorities
- Ability to work effectively within a small, collaborative team
