Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: ANALYTICAL CONSULTANT (SYSTEMS MAPPING / VISUAL MODELLING)

An analytically minded consultant is needed to join Visual Meaning, a specialist management consultancy based in Oxford, helping organisations make sense of big, complex systems by turning messy information into clear, evidence-based models that teams can share and use.

Visual Meaning combines systems thinking, visual language and data mapping techniques to help clients understand challenges that are big, ambiguous or difficult. Their interactive maps create shared understanding across organisations, bringing clarity to complexity and enabling better conversations and decisions. You will be joining a thoughtful, collaborative team that cares deeply about the quality and impact of its work.

This role sits within the Project Delivery Team and is central to how client work comes to life. You will work closely with colleagues and clients to synthesise interviews, documents and datasets into structured system models, with the visual map as the delivery format hosted on a bespoke platform. It is a hands‑on, client‑facing position suited to someone with around three years experience in consultancy, professional services, research, policy, science, academia, technology, engineering, operations, or a similarly analytical environment.

On a day‑to‑day basis, you will interview clients and (over time) facilitate workshops to understand what needs to be communicated and why. You will analyse interview notes, documents and datasets, extracting insight, identifying patterns and relationships, and shaping how information should be structured. You will then sketch and iterate system maps and visualisations, sometimes live in workshops, responding to feedback in real time.

You will use a shared visual asset library and collaborate with illustrators where needed to produce visuals for our interactive platform, and you may work with structured datasets that link through to visual compositions. Alongside this, you will manage your time and budget, coordinating with colleagues to ensure projects are delivered to a high standard.

This role is for you if you enjoy making sense of complexity: synthesising messy qualitative information, structuring it into coherent models, and explaining systems clearly to diverse stakeholders.

This role is not a brand/marketing design role, a UX/product design role, or a purely graphic design/illustration position.

To qualify:

  • Experience in a client-facing and/or analytical role;
  • Strong structured thinking (sense making, synthesis, problem-structuring);
  • The ability to distil complex or ambiguous ideas into clear, coherent models;
  • Confidence seeing the bigger picture and reflecting it back to others;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Visual thinking and information design capability;
  • Comfortable collaborating with diverse stakeholders;
  • Project management and client handling experience.

A portfolio of any visual work is welcome but not essential. Experience with vector graphics software such as Adobe Illustrator can be beneficial but is not required. An interest in data and comfort using Excel (or equivalent) is welcome.

In return, you will join a friendly, tight‑knit Oxford team driven by a desire to make a difference. Salary is £45–50k (DOE). Benefits include 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, five percent employer pension contribution, generous sick pay and parental leave, salary sacrifice options, season ticket loan, hybrid working and a full suite of IT equipment including a Mac Book Pro.
