Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Junior Clinical Pharmacist‑in‑Training (Band
6) that will undertake a 12‑month program of placements across our four hospitals:
John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, and Horton General Hospital. The role includes six‑month rotations across medical, surgical and specialist wards, with a weekend and late‑duty rota and support for a postgraduate diploma.

The successful candidate will work as part of an inter‑professional team, taking responsibility for medication safety, clinical decision support, and participatory leadership initiatives. The programme supports progression to a Band 7 position after completion of the Postgraduate Clinical Diploma.

The core responsibilities include:

• Deliver standardised clinical pharmacy services across medical and surgical rotations, including paediatric, cardiology, urology and ambulatory assessment unit placements.
• Analyse prescriptions, patient records and consult information to provide evidence‑based recommendations and support shared decision‑making.
• Participate in antimicrobial stewardship activities and support the supply of investigational medicinal products when required.
• Plan, organise and delegate your own workload in alignment with professional and organisational priorities.
• Support compliance with medicines‑related legislative and regulatory requirements and maintain the security and quality of medicines stock.
• Undertake audits and quality improvement projects to support continuous improvement culture.
• Report unexpected or untoward events via the Trust’s incident reporting system.
• Support training and mentoring of trainee pharmacists, technicians and new colleagues.
• Participate in weekend and bank holiday working according to service needs.

Deliver patient‑focused clinical pharmacy services, optimise medicines use, and support shared decision‑making. Communicate medicines information clearly to healthcare professionals and patients, including those with language difficulties and disabilities. Plan and organise workload, delegate, and comply with legislative requirements.

Undertake audits, quality improvement projects, and report incidents. Support clinical trials training, invest medicinal product supply, and lead postgraduate clinical diploma studies.

• Master’s degree (MPharm or equivalent) in Pharmacy.
• Registered pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (or anticipated registration by August 2025).
• Ability to travel to all sites, including use of public transport.
• Strong application pharmacy knowledge to benefit patient care.
• Experience working with other health‑care professionals.
• Patient consultation skills and service improvement experience.
• Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and relevant professional group (e.g., UKCPA).
• Knowledge and experience in clinical pharmacy and hospital experience.
• Audit / quality improvement and electronic prescribing systems proficiency.
• Leadership and hospital systems knowledge.
