Mental Health Social Work Support Worker - City

Are you an engaging, communicative problem solver seeking a new challenge in a role that would make a difference in metal health?

We are seeking a Mental Health Social Work Support Worker to join our growing function. Our social work team is a friendly and dynamic integrated mental health team, where no two days will be the same! We are looking for someone to work in partnership with people who use mental health services and to work alongside the mental health social workers and the wider adult mental health team, to provide targeted support to people who live with severe mental health conditions.

Whether it is supporting someone to regain their skills after a hospital admission or developing a social support group, you will use your empathy, interpersonal and relationship building skills to help people with mental health conditions live successful lives in the community.

You will be well supported by your colleagues, and you will have monthly supervision. You will be a very important part of the mental health social work group, and you will be invited to attend the monthly social work forum where our energetic collective meet to share ideas and talk about the messy stuff.

Main duties of the job

Some of the responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Support and work in partnership with the mental health social workers and wider multi-disciplinary team

Support with assessing, planning, implementing, and reviewing funded and non-funded packages of care and support.

Provide support and give time to an allocated group of service users in order to promote their recovery and maintain them in a community environment helping them to build their own support network

Provide regular and practical support to service users in developing and managing independence and maintaining dignity and self-respect.

Working with people directly to support them to develop independence and to work with them to achieve better outcomes to improve quality of life.

Sometimes people might experience a mental health crisis and you may be called upon to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to help the person get through.

Person Specification Knowledge
  • An understanding of mental health and how that can lead to stigma and discrimination
  • To help service users to access information about resources including, for example, health services (physical health) benefits, welfare rights and health promotion topics.
Skills
  • Ability to form relationships and to work independently with support and as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate with others and write clear documentation that evidences the work that you have done
  • To support service users to identify their needs and to assist the mental health social worker to assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual care and support plans.
  • To understand the importance of advocacy
Experience
  • Experience or understanding mental health conditions
  • Understanding the importance of confidentiality
