QI Fellow Renal Medicine

We are delighted to announce a Quality Improvement fellow post at the Oxford Kidney Unit (OKU) on a 12-month full-time fixed-term contract funded by the Oxford Kidney Unit Trust Fund (OKUTF). There will be an opportunity to extend this for up to 24 months subject to satisfactory progression.

Applicants wishing to apply for less than full-time contract arrangements will be considered. The start date will be dependent on successful negotiations with their current employer, but an anticipated date would be March 2026.

The post holder will spend part of their time working with the Royal College of Physicians, supporting the wider development of improvement activities. At the end of the tenure, it is anticipated that the QI fellows would have delivered successful projects within the renal department to improve patient safety and quality of care and have supported a national programme through RCP.

They will be equipped to promote and disseminate learning in QI in their local workplace, and through national networks. The knowledge and skills acquired through this post will also provide some leadership experience to a successful doctor in training.

Main duties of the job

This exciting opportunity is available to higher specialty trainees (ST) in renal medicine who already hold a training number in the UK. This placement would be undertaken in time out of programme (OOP). The fellowship is also suitable to trainees post-CCT looking to develop a special interest in quality improvement.

This post is subject to the Oxford University Hospitals NHS trust employment contract. It is anticipated that the successful post-holders will spend 4.5 days WTE leading quality improvement projects and 0.5 days WTE working within the Care Quality Improvement Department of the Royal College of Physicians, London, UK. Trainees will contribute to renal on-call cover as part of the resident hospital at-night team in the Churchill Hospital.
