Paediatric Audiologists​/Clinical Scientists

About the Role

The roles are primarily concerned with the delivery of advanced clinical practice in paediatric audiology including behavioural testing in children considered non-routine, objective testing, and hearing aid fitting and verification. In addition, these posts carry service development and line‑management responsibilities. The post holders will work closely with the Head of Paediatric Audiology in the delivery of the newly configured service. They will be expected to supervise, coach and mentor junior members of staff to ensure that a consistently high‑quality clinical service is provided.

Time has been allocated for the leadership, management, training and service development aspects of the role.

We are looking for three band 7 Advanced Paediatric Audiologists / Clinical Scientists to join us at Oxford University Hospitals as we expand and reconfigure how paediatric audiology services are delivered by the Trust. We are delighted to have been rated "Full Assurance" in our ICB/NHS England site visit in spring 2025, and have now received funding to further develop our service, including provision of a new paediatric audiology facility at the Horton Hospital in Banbury.

• Delivery of advanced clinical practice in paediatric audiology, including behavioural and objective assessments and hearing aid fitting and verification.
• Service development and line‑management responsibilities.

• Collaboration with the Head of Paediatric Audiology in delivering the newly configured service.
• Allocation of time for leadership, management, training and service development activities.

• Three band 7 Advanced Paediatric Audiologists / Clinical Scientist positions available at Oxford University Hospitals.
• Desired candidate is an experienced Paediatric Audiologist / Clinical Scientist with further training in paediatric audiology or a Clinical Scientist (Audiology) registered with HCPC or AHCS.
• Evidence of further specialist training and experience in paediatric audiology within an NHS context, including hearing aid provision.
• Highly developed skills in undertaking developmentally appropriate audiological assessments in children of all ages, including non‑routine cases.
• Minimum 22.5hrs/week (0.6
  
  FTE) for part‑time positions; full‑time positions also accepted.

OUH is one of the UK's largest teaching hospital trusts. We provide a comprehensive paediatric audiology service including assessing babies referred from the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme, the behavioural and objective assessment of children of all ages, and the habilitation of children with hearing loss. The paediatric audiology service sits alongside a busy adult audiology service and our Auditory Implant Programme.

You would be joining a large team comprising Audiologists, Assistant Audiologists, Clinical Scientists (Audiology), Hearing Therapists and administrative colleagues. We are actively involved in training and have colleagues on PTP and STP programmes, with all staff having regular CPD opportunities. The service has undergone significant development over recent years and is actively working towards IQIPS accreditation.
