Overview

designated as Trauma Units, across the Thames Valley Trauma Network. A 24/7 consultant-led Trauma team at the MTC provide high quality, specialist care for the most severely injured patients across the Network. The delivery of such exceptional care is facilitated by the integration of multiple, specialist teams from the pre-hospital phase through to rehabilitation.

Responsibilities
  • To assist in rehabilitating patients following trauma, poly-trauma, SCI & MSK injuries to optimise patient recovery and outcomes.
  • To support patient centred rehabilitation in order to facilitate timely, safe discharge, reflecting individual choice and maximising an individual s independence.
  • To provide holistic interventions for patients without direct supervision, working to treatment plans, protocols and accountable at all times to a registered practitioner.
  • To accurately record patient information utilising EPR.
  • To record and input data onto IT systems as required.
  • To maintain rehabilitation equipment.
  • To support clinicians with basic patient assessments (including but not exclusive to):
    Initial social interview & assessment/transfers & mobility assessment/ MSK assessment/ stairs assessments/ rehabilitation equipment needs & provision/ cognition & memory / wash, dressing & personal care/ discharge planning assessments.
  • To liaise with patients/ family/ care providers and rehabilitation units as required.
  • To support and undertake the provision of rehabilitation equipment.
  • To contribute to statistical data collections & audits.
  • To contribute to maintenance of patient & referral lists.
  • To actively participate in training/ supervision & service developments.
  • This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join an established rehabilitation team, working with Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists & Therapy Assistants, to optimise the recovery and outcomes for people admitted to hospital, following trauma, polytrauma, SCI, head injury, MSK & plastic injuries alongside the trauma MDT.
Qualifications
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Proven educational standard to GCSE in English and Math's (or the equivalent).
  • Office IT skills.
  • Desirable criteria:
  • Completed care certificate.
  • Attended courses for trauma conditions.
  • Demonstrates interest/involvement & experience with research & evidence-based rehabilitation, Trauma Experience.
  • Experience of working at band 3 or above within NHS.
  • Experience of working with patients individually or in groups.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of Health and Community Services related to Trauma.
  • Experience working within Occupational therapy or Physiotherapy rehabilitation, Excellent communication skills.
  • To be enthusiastic & dynamic with the ability to motivate self and others.
  • Ability to work across a variety of hospital settings.
  • Ability to manage time effectively to organise workloads.
  • Ability to work effectively both in an MDT & autonomously & under the direction of others.
  • Ability to make observations, gather accurate information and act appropriately.
  • Ability to take responsibility & use own initiative.
  • Ability to facilitate groups.
  • Ability to assist in staff induction programmes & training courses & supporting students.
  • To be able to concentrate/focus during unpredictable work patterns or interruptions and the need to meet deadline.
  • To have coping strategies to deal with stressful/unpleasant situations.
  • Able to maintain confidential records & be able to supply safe and appropriate information relating to patients, rehab, equipment and supplies & services.
  • Demonstrates strong patient centered, holistic approaches in line with trust values.
  • To be able to move/ handle patients safely.
  • Adherence to Royal College of Occupational Therapy or Chartered Society of Physiotherapists; and HCPC guidelines and codes of ethics and professional conduct for Therapy Assistants.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage challenging behaviours.
  • Demonstrates ability to approach work challenges flexibly.
  • Experience with risk assessment in health care.
  • Experience with training/ teaching in healthcare setting.
