Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research.

The Trust comprises four hospitals – the John Radcliffe Hospital
, Churchill Hospital
, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence and its focus is on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence.

Job overview

The MRI department has recently undergone an extensive equipment replacement programme, with all MRI scanners replaced by new state‑of‑the‑art technology. A Siemens Sola has been installed in a dedicated, purpose‑built area with an anaesthetic room, bed bays, reporting work areas and separate cannulation areas, and the department will see an increase in awake and GA paediatric imaging. Additional scanners include a Siemens Vida d, a GE HDX Twinspeed 1.5T scanner and a fourth MRI scanner in the Neuroradiology department that will be replaced by a Philips Ingenia Ambition by the end of September.

The new technology now allows links with the University MRI scanning department for advanced research.

Main duties of the job

The department performs extensive investigations across Neuro, Ortho and Body Imaging. It spans the NOC and Churchill sites, offering MSK and oncology specialty scans. Scanners at these sites are being upgraded to Siemens Sola and Vida at the NOC and GE Architect and Artist at Churchill.

Operations run 7 days a week between 08:00 and 20:00 with on‑call service from 20:00 to 08:00.

The post suits a radiographer with wide general MRI experience, enthusiastic about developing clinical and educational roles. Training will be provided in all aspects of MRI practice.
