Pharmacy provide a comprehensive range of pharmaceutical services and extended clinical roles to many clinical areas, including tertiary specialities.

We work closely with our clinical colleagues, including our eight consultant pharmacists, meaning you will have the best possible platform to develop your skills and knowledge and be a part of a Trust providing world‑class clinical care.

Our rotations are across four main sites and most of your time will be spent in clinical areas, engaging with patients and colleagues.

Additional benefits include paid study leave and course fees to undertake a Clinical Diploma, and the opportunity to complete your independent prescribing qualification as part of the Clinical Diploma (if not already obtained) as part of the strategic objective of the department to have all clinical pharmacists as prescribers by 2028.

Main duties of the job
  • Experience across multiple specialities and hospital sites allowing you to develop a wide experience for your clinical pharmacy portfolio, with the opportunity to complete nine four‑month rotations in areas such as:
    • General medicine
    • Surgery
    • Stroke
    • Intensive Care
    • Orthopaedics
    • Neurology/neurosurgery
    • Children's
    • Renal and Transplant
    • Infectious Diseases
    • Gastroenterology and Hepatology
    • Cancer and Palliative Care
    • Medicines Information
  • A postgraduate clinical diploma with Cardiff University
  • Experience leading the dispensary during out‑of‑hours services
  • Working as part of the Hospital at Night team, proactively reviewing patients requiring medicines optimisation
  • Varied shift work to challenge and stretch you to become an expert at prioritisation and organisation

Join a team of friendly resident pharmacists who work collaboratively and are responsible for providing the Trust's out‑of‑hours Pharmacy service. This is achieved by working varied shift patterns across weekends and weekdays, alongside a variety of clinical rotations. A fantastic amount of peer support is provided by working within such a close‑knit team of like‑minded individuals. There is an experienced team of senior‑on‑call pharmacists who provide support throughout the night for calls which need senior advice.
