We are looking for a highly motivated, hard-working, innovative and dynamic leader to lead our team. You do not need to be a current expert in the field to apply but must have the drive and aspiration to become one.
We are looking for applicants who would enjoy the autonomy of leading and developing a team of nurses and also unregistered care support workers.

Lead & CollaborationYou will work collaboratively with the Lead Nurse to ensure efficient day to day operational management of the CTCCU. They will be visible, easily identifiable. The post holder will be accessible to patients, relatives and all staff working within the clinical area and provide excellent clinical leadership skills. They will take responsibility for the strategic leadership of a clinical team and will promote and demonstrate contemporary and proactive approaches to intensive care nursing practice.
Responsibilities- To promote the Cardiothoracic (CTCCU) Nursing Philosophy in clinical practice.
- Demonstrates expert knowledge and skills in the management of the complex and changing health care needs of the critically ill patient, integrating theory and practice.
- Ensures that the patients’ interests are fully considered within the contexts of care; and actively participates in ethical decision making.
- Actively investigates advanced theoretical knowledge and demonstrates research-based practice.
- Act as a credible clinical role model.
- Practices as a professional senior nurse with confidence, authority and expertise.
- Takes responsibility for clinical practice developments.
- Maintains accurate and comprehensive documentation, and demonstrates competency in the use of information technology resources.
- Works within CTCCU and OUH Trust codes of practice and professional guidelines.
- Demonstrates effective communication regarding complex and sensitive information to patients, individuals in the multi-professional team, and significant others.
- To participate and engage with research activities within the Cardiothoracic Critical Care service.
- To engage in and perform audit and service improvement projects.
- Promotes an environment that encourages learning and sustains the personal and professional development of staff.
- Supports staff through the provision of sound mentorship tailored to individual learning needs.
- Takes responsibility for constructive feedback to staff on their progress and development utilising, or encouraging the use of, the performance review framework.
- Acts as an expert resource for staff requiring knowledge and skills in critical care practice.
- Contributes to the ongoing development and implementation of education programmes within CTCCU practice.
- Actively participates in the provision of educational programmes within CTCCU.
- Actively participates in relevant CTCCU / OUH Trust initiatives / projects and takes responsibility for co‑ordinating their development, implementation and evaluation within critical care.
- Is committed to an ethos of life‑long learning.
- Takes responsibility for operational management of the CTCCU.
- Management of staff and resources on the CTCCU.
- Participates in multi‑disciplinary decision making via the daily bed meeting to facilitate elective admissions and discharges.
- In collaboration with other senior nurses, develops the CTCCU operational and organisational structure to optimise the service.
- Actively participates in the collaborative approach to strategic planning that ensures the CTCCU service plan accounts for patient and service needs.
- Directs supports and facilitates any team and unit project work.
- Contributes to local research and to practice development.
- Contributes to on‑going development and achievement of individual team members to promote potential.
- Facilitates feedback to individuals through performance review and clinical supervision to fulfil individual and unit needs.
