Job Overview

Band 6 Rotational Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist – 8‑month rotations across three OUH sites (John Radcliffe Hospital humilde, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and Horton General Hospital), covering MSK outpatients, trauma wards, elective orthopaedic surgery, hand therapy and an Optimise pain management service.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of the post‑holder’s own work.
  • Manage a complex and busy caseload, demonstrating flexibility to deliver efficient patient services in a range of models.
  • Carry out assessment of patients as an autonomous practitioner, including those with diverse or complex presentations and multimorbidities, using clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of evidence‑based practice.
  • Interpret and analyse clinical and non‑clinical facts to form

  • Co‑ordinate intervention which may include other disciplines; advise and educate patient/carers/relatives/other health professionals.
  • Maintain accurate written records, in line with Professional Standards. Provide comprehensive progress and discharge reports as required by rotation.
  • Demonstrate physical ability to carry out physiotherapy assessment and interventions including manual therapy techniques and therapeutic handling.
  • Demonstrate, teach and observe excellent manual handling and demonstrate therapeutic patient handling when needed.
  • Demonstrate highly developed dexterity, coordination and palpatory sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients.
  • Be able to manage potentially stressful, upsetting or emotional situations in an簿empathetic manner.
  • Represent physiotherapy and / or individual patients at multidisciplinary team meetings, ensuring delivery of co‑ordinated care, including discussion of patient care / discharge planning.
  • Be able to motivate and persuade others through effective communication skills, with both verbal and non‑verbal skills, using written and electronic information where needed. 2
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, carers and other staff, where there may be barriers to communication (e.g., non‑English speakers, those with communication disorders, impaired sight or hearing).

Management Responsibilities

  • Assist in the supervision, teaching and appraisal of junior staff and assistants.

  • Be able to respond to unpredictable work patterns and frequent interruptions.
  • Assist in the planning of juniors, students and assistants’ timetables and deputise for the team leader in organisational duties.
