Elementary School
We are seeking two outstanding string teachers to join the Music Department at Christ Church Cathedral School (CCCS), following the retirement of our excellent upper and lower stringsteachers at the end of the summer term.
String playing is thriving at CCCS, and there is currently one day of teaching available for each role.
This year, we have three string pupils in the National Children's Orchestra, and our string staff runa String Quartet, a Lower Strings group, and a String Orchestra (which expands to become a Full Orchestra for major concerts).
String teaching is offered from Year 2 upwards, with a 30-minute lesson per pupil each week, and the ideal candidates will be equally enthusiastic about inspiring beginners and stretching our most advanced players.
CCCS is a choir school, educating Cathedral choristers as well as the choristers of Worcester and Pembroke Colleges, so music is at the heart of school life, with many boys going on to win musicalawards at senior schools.
We seek two enthusiastic and adaptable members of staff who would enjoy playing an integral rolein the Music Department and kindling an enthusiasm for string playing throughout the school. Bothroles are part-time,
permanent positions (PAYE), starting in September 2026. Candidates must have an established right to work in the UK, as well as fluent English.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is an outstanding musician and educator, able to get the best out of pupils at every stage of their development.
- Is creative and knowledgeable, nurturing pupils’ interest in string-playing through workwith individuals and ensembles.
- Has a positive mindset, being adaptable and flexible in approach.
- Is caring, sharing their love for music and building constructive relationships with pupils.
- Tailors their teaching to get the best out of children, communicating clearly with pupils,staff, and parents about practice and goals.
- Is in sympathy with the needs of a busy, friendly Music Department in a choir school setting.

The remuneration for the role is calculated by reference to hours worked, and the applicable hourly rate in the 2025/26 academic year is £43.79. This will be increased in September
2026 by the same percentage amount that is agreed by governors for the staff pay rise that willtake effect for the 2026/27 academic year.
