Position: Fellow in Medical Education (Psychiatry)

Fellow in Medical Education (Psychiatry)

We are recruiting for Fellows in Medical Education (Psychiatry) to support the teaching of undergraduate medical students and postgraduate residents within Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust (OHFT). These posts are designed to support doctors who wish to make a commitment to education as part of their career.

We are offering these roles as a 12-month out-of-programme pause/experience (OOPP/E) to CT1-3 and ST4-7 residents in Psychiatry or as a 12-month fixed term position for residents looking to take time out in between core and higher training. Applications from speciality, associate specialist and specialist doctors are also encouraged. Please note this is a 12 month fixed term contract.

Main duties of the job

Based in the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, the post is aimed at outstanding doctors who wish to pursue a career as a clinical teacher and researcher. It will offer you the opportunity to develop innovations to support clinical education and workplace practice and provide opportunities to build on personal teaching experience, develop expertise in educational theory and practice, and undertake supervised educational research.

The roles themselves will involve the direct delivery of existing educational interventions as well as the opportunity to develop new educational initiatives in collaboration with Dr Chris Kowalski (Simulation Training Lead, OHFT) and Prof Kate Saunders (Undergraduate Education Lead for Psychiatry, University of Oxford).

Although an enthusiasm for teaching is a prerequisite, no assumptions will be made about formal knowledge of educational theory or practice. Hands-on teaching will be central to the posts, as will a critical engagement with educational issues around providing undergraduate teaching in a changing context, both nationally and locally. Post-holders will be encouraged to develop a sustained commitment to education within their clinical career and to undertake postgraduate study in Clinical Education while in post (with appropriate funding for this being provided).
