To all the journalists out there, do you want to take some time off from your work and attend an immersive Journalist fellowship program in the United Kingdom with all your finances covered? Here is some exciting news: the applications are open for the Reuters Institute Fellowship Programme 2026-27. A prestigious short-term fellowship hosted by the Reuters Institute at the University of Oxford offers an incredible opportunity for practicing and mid-career journalists from around the world to participate and explore Journalism in depth at the University of Oxford.

The duration of the fellowship program is 3-6 months, and will commence in either January or April 2026. It’s an in-person fellowship; selected participants are expected to be at the University of Oxford for the entire duration.

The Journalist fellowship programme offers generous support to participants. The coverage includes a competitive stipend to cover living and travel-related costs. The fellowship offers working journalists hands on learning in Journalism through personal research, seminars, discussions, and networking. A total of 30 awards will be granted under this programme for the academic year 2026-27. The fellowship does not charge any application fee.

Who can Apply?
  • The fellowship is open to applicants from all over the world
  • Calling applications from mid-career journalists with at least 5 years of experience in journalism
  • The fellowship is for practicing journalists (including freelancers)
  • Must return to their work after the completion of the fellowship
  • Excellent command in English language
  • No IELTS/TOEFL required
  • Submit a project proposal that defines your research plan during your stay
  • Individuals working in public relations, public affairs, or corporate communications are not eligible
