Principal ResponsibilitiesThe Plastic Surgery Unit deals with a wide range of paediatric and adult plastic surgery, both elective and emergency. There are at least 4 daily elective operating lists every weekday with a daily list for emergencies seven days a week, in addition to regular local anaesthetic minor operating lists.
This post involves day to day care or patients on the wards as well as outpatient clinics and operating sessions, depending on the ward and on call commitments.

Specialty DetailsThe Plastic Surgery department offers reconstructive surgery facilities to patients from the south and west parts of the Oxford Health Region and also the northern part of the Wessex Health Region. In addition, head and neck cancer tends to be referred from the northern part of the Region to the Unit. All aspects of reconstructive plastic surgery are dealt with in the unit apart from major burns.
The Oxford Craniofacial Unit is also based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in association with the Plastic Surgery Department. The John Radcliffe is a Major Trauma Centre and is one of the leading centres in the UK for timely cover of open fractures.
