Description of Position:
The School Psychometrist is responsible for conducting psychological and educational assessments to evaluate students for eligibility for special education services under IDEA and Mississippi state regulations. This role includes administering standardized tests, interpreting assessment data, and collaborating with educators, parents, and school teams to support student learning and development. The psychometrist plays a key role in ensuring appropriate educational placement and intervention strategies based on students' needs.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Psychological & Educational Assessments (50%)
- Administer, score, and interpret standardized cognitive, academic, and behavioral assessments.
- Conduct intellectual, academic, and behavioral evaluations to determine student strengths and needs.
- Ensure that all assessments are conducted in accordance with IDEA and Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) guidelines.
- Maintain appropriate testing accommodations and ensure assessments are conducted in a non-discriminatory manner.
- Collaboration & Consultation (20%)
- Work closely with teachers, school administrators, and special education staff to analyze assessment results.
- Consult with school personnel on appropriate interventions and accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Serve as a liaison between schools, parents, and external service providers when necessary.
- Compliance & Documentation (15%)
- Ensure compliance with federal and state special education laws regarding timelines, consent, and eligibility determinations.
- Maintain accurate, confidential student records and submit reports in a timely manner.
- Prepare comprehensive written reports summarizing assessment findings and recommendations.
- Assist in monitoring compliance with special education eligibility criteria.
- Training & Professional Development (15%)
- Provide training to teachers and staff on assessment tools, interpreting results, and best practices in student evaluation.
- Stay up-to-date with current research, testing instruments, and Mississippi special education laws.
- Participate in district-wide professional development, conferences, and workshops to enhance assessment skills.
- Master's Degree in Psychometry, Educational Psychology, Special Education, or a related field.
- Must hold a valid Mississippi Educator License with a 451 Psychometrist Endorsement.
- Strong knowledge of IDEA, MTSS, and Mississippi special education laws.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in educational testing, assessment interpretation, or related field.
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including intellectual disabilities, autism, and emotional/behavioral disorders.
- Familiarity with MTSS and intervention strategies.
All employees hired by the school district must pass a criminal background and child abuse registry check.
Preferred Education, Experience, And Skills- Proficiency in administering assessments such as WISC-V, Woodcock-Johnson IV, KTEA-3, BASC-3, and Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales.
- Strong understanding of cognitive, academic, and behavioral assessments.
- Ability to analyze and interpret standardized test scores and communicate findings clearly.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Strong data collection and reporting skills for eligibility determinations.
