Average hours per week: 48 hours. Two-tier ROTA, on second tier.

Main duties of the job

• Operating sessions

• Ward rounds and routine ward work

• Outpatient clinics

This whole‑time post is based at the West Wing, John Radcliffe Hospital with occasional visits to peripheral outpatient clinics in the region. On‑call commitment: two-tier ROTA, on second tier.

Person specification

Qualifications

• GMC registration

• FRCS (SN) or equivalent

• Higher medical degree / FRCS (SN)

Experience

• General training in neurosurgery to specialist level or equivalent

• Interest in research with publications

Skills & Knowledge

• Sufficient leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills to undertake effectively the role of clinical fellow in spinal neurosurgery in a large teaching hospital.

• Good spoken and written English. Communication skills should be highly developed.

• Experience of teaching undergraduates and trainees.

• Knowledge of the organisation of the NHS and the Government’s agenda for its modernisation.

• Management training and experience.
