As a CGS Legal Clerk, you will provide a variety of direct assistance to USAO Victim-Witness personnel, AUSAs, legal assistants, administrative staff, and other USAO personnel. - Provide witness management assistance prior to, during, and after trial. Typical assignments include working directly with fact witnesses, ensuring their appearance for court, pre‑trial conferences, and grand jury.
- Receive visitors, field phone calls, and address inquiries from fact witnesses seeking information about court, pre‑trial conferences, grand jury appearances, and expense reimbursement. Obtain pertinent information for files and documents necessary to arrange witness travel and reimbursements.
- Initiate contact and notify fact witnesses regarding travel arrangements, appearance dates/times, and special circumstances or needs. Use judgment to determine when an AUSA should be notified of special circumstances.
- Confer with the AUSA concerning fact witness appearance and special circumstances (special authorizations, international witnesses, military/federal employee witnesses, or hostile witnesses). Complete and submit proper documentation for special authorizations and obtain prior approval before proceeding with travel arrangements.
- Prior to the fact witness’s appearance, ensure all travel documents and appearance details have been provided. Arrange travel and lodging according to Department of Justice and USAO policies and procedures.
- Meet fact witnesses upon arrival at a hearing or pre‑trial conference, provide courtroom orientation, accompany them to court, and ensure a safe waiting area. Collect documentation and signatures for reimbursement.
- Prepare and submit documentation for fact witness reimbursement, including vouchers and other required documents. Reconcile Government Travel Accounts and furnish requested information concerning vouchers.
- Obtain information, confer, and coordinate with the Court, Probation, Pretrial, U.S. Marshals Service, investigative agencies, and other counterparts when necessary.
- Complete variable aspects of recurring documents in conformance with style and format rules.
- Compose original letters that require legal procedures and specialized terminology relevant to fact witness laws and regulations.
- Perform general office procedures pertaining to fact witness management, including establishing and maintaining fact witness files, documents and databases; assembling documents for file material; tracking hearings, trial dates, grand jury and scheduling conferences; and performing other administrative and logistical duties as required.

- High school diploma is required; undergraduate degree preferred
