SUMMARY:

The Retort Technician will work safely and observe all plant safety, GMP, and food safety rules. They are responsible for the safe operation, maintenance and physical tasks required to operate the automated retort equipment. This position shall assure the efficient operation, loading, unloading and retort processing for food products and operate in such a manner to maintain continuous operation without down time.

The position shall also be responsible for cleaning the work area, verification and inspection of product and materials and maintain accurate records to assure that no process deviations occur.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Mizkan America safety policies, OSHA regulations, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and SOP (Standard Operating Procedures).
  • Perform manual tasks which support the continuous operation of the production lines. Such duties may include, but not be limited to:
  • Sweeping, mopping and washing of floors and equipment.
  • Operation and simple maintenance of retort equipment.
  • Rotate duties with other workers at other locations in the plant as required.
  • Performs quality inspections of product, materials and ingredients to assure compliance to standards.
  • Maintain records and paperwork required to assure food products are processed in accordance with food safety/HAACP guidelines.
  • Perform all Continuous Improvement activities required.
  • Perform changeovers when necessary.
  • Understand Retort process.
  • Understand all Critical Control Points (CCP).
  • Must understand steps if a process deviation occurs.
  • Performs other duties required of the position or as directed.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent attention to details and accuracy required.
  • Must be respectful and work well with all levels of personnel.
  • Great work attitude, with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Strong Computer Literacy skills.
  • Must be able to work overtime on short notice basis. Long-term, temporary assignments to any shift may be required to maintain manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to work in high temperatures (hot or cold), working at heights and exposure to strong smells, dust, gases, fumes and chemical or require personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to use Personal Protective Equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical aspects of the job as performed in an 8-hour workday.

  • Must be able to see, sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, reach, bend, twist, ascend/ descend.
  • Ability to pull, push, lift and carry up to 50 lbs., 50+ lbs. with assistance.
