Commissionaires Great Lakes (CGL) is a private, not‑for‑profit organization founded in 1925 whose mandate is to provide meaningful employment for veterans and others committed to the well‑being of Canadians, primarily in security guard and related services. Spanning Central and Southwestern Ontario, our services respond to the dynamic and evolving security needs of private and public sector clients, including uniformed guard, mobile response and support services, by‑law enforcement and identification services.

We are currently seeking a Commissionaire to join our growing team. This posting is for an existing vacancy.

What Our Commissionaires Are Responsible For
  • Respond promptly to Code White emergencies and other security incidents.
  • Attend meetings as required; join virtual meetings using MS Teams.
  • Produce correspondence such as letters and memos up to a security classification of PROTECTED

  • Maintain files, records, databases, control/tracking and other reference systems.
  • Destroy/Archive files as required.
  • Receive, register, compile and distribute documents, correspondence and communications related material (i.e. through paper and electronic means).
  • Respond to inquiries in accordance with established policies and procedures, applying guidelines and identifying sources of information or services.
  • Redirect queries to the appropriate person if unable to assist with requests for information.
  • Cover duties of other Commissionaires within the unit as required.
  • Unlock the back entrance door for staff at 07h15.
  • Unlock front patient doors at 07h30.
  • Lock the front patient doors at 15h00.
  • Raise flags at 07h30 and lower flags at 15h45.
  • Lock the back entrance door.
  • Confirm valid  all incoming visitors.
  • Fire Warden.
  • Door access control during fire evacuations.
  • Escort contractors as required.
  • Intervention responsibilities such as access control/patrol of buildings and/or restricted areas using physical or technological means.
  • Clerical and administrative duties related to performance of security services.
  • Coordinate Key Press and Combination Cabinet Requirements.
  • Liaise with Real Property Operations Detachment Meaford and Weapons Tech Services.
  • Communicate on a Motorola Radio with Military Dispatch for radio checks and call for assistance when needed.
We Are Excited for You to Offer Us
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ontario Security Guard License (OSGL).
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • MUST be able to obtain Secret Security Clearance – minimum 10 years Canadian residency.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • MUST be bilingual (French & English).
  • MUST be able to obtain Level III Use of Force Certification.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows OS and Microsoft Office suite in a secure environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong emphasis on security awareness.
  • Proven customer service skills combined with the ability to educate users on secure behavior.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and strictly adhere to defined security policies.
  • Confidence in operating a computer workstation, office equipment, and a variety of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) to assemble, prepare, and distribute documents, reports and returns, and correspondence.

  • Hourly Rate of Pay: $29.73 per hour
  • Hours of work:
    Monday to Friday 07h15 to 15h45 with a 30‑minute unpaid lunch at 12:00.
