Job Summary

Mental Health Practitioners (MHPs) provide skills-based mental health services to children, adults, and families experiencing behavioral health concerns. Under the supervision of a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP), MHPs help clients build skills that support daily functioning, resilience, and overall well-being.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not include direct supervision of other employees. MHPs collaborate closely with Fernbrook team members who share clients and/or support caseload coordination.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide mental health skills-based services to children, adults, and families through individual, family, and group modalities.
  • Meet required productivity benchmarks and weekly billable expectations.
  • Use effective, culturally responsive strategies to address client needs.
  • Complete documentation in accordance with agency standards for content, quality, and timeliness.
  • Seek supervision, consultation, and guidance as needed.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings to support professional development.
  • Complete 30 hours of mental health–related continuing education every two years.
  • Coordinate care and collaborate with Fernbrook staff and external providers.
  • Uphold and represent Fernbrook Family Center’s mission and values internally and externally.
  • Follow all agency policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit, listen, observe, and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
  • Flexible work hours generally between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
  • Regular travel is required to client homes, community settings, Fernbrook locations, and off-site placements.
  • Salaried employees typically work 40–43 hours per week; additional hours may be needed to meet client and program demands.
  • Hourly employees may work up to 40 hours per week. Overtime must be approved in advance by a supervisor.
Education And Experience Requirements
  • Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and an acceptable driving record are required for community-based positions.
  • Must pass a criminal background check in accordance with agency and Department of Human Services requirements.
  • Must meet one of the following qualification pathways:
    • Current Minnesota Statute requirements for Mental Health Practitioner, or
    • Current Minnesota Statute requirements for Clinical Trainee
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing services to children, adults, and families.
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
