Public Safety Supervisor – Owatonna, MN
Full‑time position in a 24/7 environment. Hourly pay $29.37–$39.97, with $0.75 shift differential for 6:00pm–6:00am and all weekend days.
Responsibilities- Receive and prioritize emergency and non‑emergency calls via radio, phone, and computer.
- Dispatch police, fire, EMS, rescue, and reserves; monitor all radio channels.
- Operate CAD to enter, track, and manipulate call data; maintain accurate records.
- Coordinate with law enforcement, fire/rescue, medical, emergency management, and municipal units operating in the field.
- Utilize NCIC/MNJIS terminal to verify driver records, vehicle registrations, criminal histories, and other restricted data.
- Operate national crime information center, public notification system, and emergency notification services.
- Train new employees; maintain a clean and respectful work environment.
- Notify Shift Supervisor of all critical incidents or other matters requiring their attention.
Position Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Pass required background check and psychological evaluation
- Basic computing skills: email, Outlook, web browsing, Adobe PDF, word processing, spreadsheets; type 30 WPM
- Communications experience
- Two years as a public safety communications operator or dispatcher
- Experience in customer service
- Experience or education in law enforcement, fire, or EMS training
- Previous experience in criminal justice, corrections, or courts
- State of MN Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) certification
- NIMS training
- Public Safety Telecommunicator certification
- Law Communications certification
- Fire Communications certification
- Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification
Training for the above certifications is provided by the employer and is required within six months of hire.
HoursFull‑time, generally a 12‑hour shift in a 24/7/365 environment. Employees may be required to work outside their regular schedule under certain circumstances.
Selection ProcessMay include: job‑related interview, typing and comprehension testing, criminal history/background check, background investigation, and psychological evaluation.
