Job Summary Under general supervision, is responsible for the performance of manual, semiskilled work in the care, maintenance and repair of areas by performing the following duties.# #

Job Description
** All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. ** ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS     
• Assist in maintaining grounds, turf, and picnic and playground equipment in park areas.

• May operate tractor and specialized equipment using specific attachments, to till, cultivate and grade new turf areas, and to mow park areas at designated cut, exercising care not to injure turf and shrubs.

• Mow, edge and trim turf areas, using hand mower and power landscape tools.

• Connect hose and sprinkler systems at designated points to irrigate turf and landscape bed areas.

• Dig and rake grounds to repair road beds, using shovels, rakes, spades and other tools.

• May plant, trim and spray trees and shrubs.

• Perform other duties as assigned.# # Additional

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES  Knowledge of common practices, methods, tools and materials of varied, semiskilled maintenance work; and of the hazards and safety precautions of the work.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
No prior experience or training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS
No computer skills required.
