Position: PARKS & GROUNDS MAINTENANCE WORKER

Position Title: Parks and Grounds Maintenance Worker I

Department: Parks and Public Lands

Reports To: Parks Supervisor, Cemetery Caretaker, Lake Supervisor, or other Supervisor as assigned

Field: Building and Grounds Cleaning and Maintenance Occupations

Category: Non Exempt

Pay Grade: 11 Position

Summary

Under direct supervision, performs a variety of unskilled and semi‑skilled manual labor in the construction and maintenance of parks, lake, cemetery, golf course, pool, buildings and other municipal facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Operate mowers, trimmers and various other landscaping equipment.
  • Operate trucks, backhoes, loaders, jackhammers, mowers, trimmers, tractors, chippers, utility carts and other equipment essential to grounds maintenance.
  • Load and haul equipment, sand, gravel, clay, topsoil and other construction and maintenance materials.
  • Serve as lead worker over seasonal laboring workers.
  • Supervise Department of Corrections personnel and seasonal employees.
  • Perform work in electrical and mechanical repair and other carpentry, electrical, welding, plumbing, concrete finishing, brick masonry or related areas.
  • Perform manual labor in the maintenance, repair, and minor construction of parks, pools, cemeteries, golf course, lake recreation facilities.
  • Set up for meetings and special events.
  • Provide janitorial services for public buildings, maintenance buildings, grounds, and cemetery mausoleum.
  • Handle herbicides and pesticides.
  • Show cemetery lots for sale; work with funeral directors and monuments companies concerning policies and operations of the cemetery.
  • Deal with the public in a manner that positively promotes the image of the City and handles complaints and needs tactfully.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, superiors, and the public.
  • All employees of the City of Winfield are subject to immediate callout when an emergency, disaster or breach of homeland security occurs. Such call to respond and assist may involve those activities to his/her regular job responsibilities and incorporate other non‑job‑related duties as necessary and required of an employee. An employee’s response to these matters may require the working of unusual, long hours over an extended period of time with infrequent breaks or giải kỳ.
