Maintenance Craftsperson – Park
Position Purpose/
Summary:
Responsible for the maintenance and repair of park play areas. Work is performed under the supervision of a foreman in accordance with accepted trade practices, with inspection reviews during the process and upon completion for conformance to established departmental standards. Incumbents ordinarily specialize in a single trade, but may perform tasks that encompass skill sets in more than one trade. Supervision may be exercised over assigned helpers.
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age at the time of filing application. Incomplete applications will not be processed. The name of an applicant will remain on the Labor Service register for the job title which he or she is registered for a period of not more than five years from the date of registration, subject to renewal of registration as provided in Section 28, Chapter 31 of the General Laws, and to compliance with other applicable Civil Service law and rules.

- Constructs, alters, and repairs park structures and play equipment; operates woodworking machinery.
- Paints, decorates structures, buildings, and equipment, including spray painting, glazing doors and windows.
- May supervise assigned helpers in less skilled aspects of work performed.
- May operate motor equipment of light to moderate tonnage.
- Performs related work as required.
- Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, equipment processes, and techniques of the work performed.
- Considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions involved in work performed.
- Some knowledge of fundamentals of a variety of skilled trades.
- Ability to work from written and oral instructions, sketches, and drawings.
- Ability to supervise the work of assigned helpers.
- Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment, and materials employed in the work performed.
- High school diploma or equivalent, including or supplemented by training in a specialized trade.
- At least three years of varied experience in the work performed.
