Position Purpose/

Summary:

Responsible for the maintenance and repair of the City’s air conditioning systems and equipment. Work is performed with considerable independence in accordance with accepted trade practices adapted to municipal requirements under the general direction of a supervisor of higher grade who reviews work through inspections for conformance to established departmental standards. No supervision is exercised over other staff.

Essential Functions:

• Restore air conditioning equipment to original operating standards.
• Modify equipment as needed to ensure future reliability.
• Troubleshoot and repair air conditioning equipment and control systems.
• Complete reactive and preventative maintenance paperwork.
• Assist in emergencies as needed.
• Work according to the schedule prepared by the supervisor.
• Return all work areas to a clean, neat, orderly and safe condition.
• Learn, understand and comply with fire, safety, and other emergency practices.
• Participate in training directed at increasing maintenance and other job‑related skills.
• Perform related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, equipment, and techniques of the trade.
• Ability to keep records of activities performed.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and drawings.
• Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
• Ability to locate, diagnose, and correct defects and malfunctions on a variety of air conditioning equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials of the trade.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent, including or supplemented by technical courses relating to the trade.
• Minimum of two years of experience as a skilled air conditioning mechanic.
