Ascend is seeking a responsible and dedicated candidate to join our team of Vigil Aides to serve the greater Kansas City area.

The ideal candidate will provide a calm presence, listen to and support family members as their loved one is at the end of life. Vigil Aides accompany patients and families to offer presence, reassurance, and peace while helping to provide physical cares including personal hygiene, grooming, and repositioning. This is a unique opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a difference for others at the end of life.

This Vigil Aide/Certified Home Health Aide will be responsible for, but not limited to:

• Provide support to patients, families, and facilities by delivering end of life vigil presence at bedside in home or nursing home settings.
• Provide compassionate bedside presence for patients deemed vigil appropriate/end of life by RN.
• Support families through listening, education, and hospice presence as the patient is actively dying.
• Collaborate with facility staff to ensure patient comfort, care, and support.
• Provide presence after death to support family and facility prior to funeral home arrival.
• Provide caregiver relief for families who need to step away from bedside, as needed.
• Assist with showers or other patient care needs as directed.
• Provide or assist with ADL activities: personal hygiene, grooming, mouth care, skin care, and nails.
• Assist with toileting, positioning and transfer activities; frequent turning and positioning of bed-bound patient.
• Assist with prescribed exercise and ROM activities as taught by the Hospice Nurse.
• Assist with light housekeeping of the patient’s unit or room, including changing bed linen and patient laundry.
• Feed and assist with meals.
• Obtain temperature, pulse, and respirations as supervised by the Hospice Nurse.
• Report any changes in the patient’s condition to the Hospice Nurse and, if in a facility, to the facility nurse; document the information on the Home Health Aide Certification of House form with date and time.
• Assist or remind the patient to take medications in compliance with applicable regulations.

High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Must have a State Certified CHHA/CNA license.
• Experience in hospice or home health preferred.
• No experience necessary, but 1 year preferred.
• Must be willing to travel.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
