Job Summary and QualificationsThe Surgical First Assistant will perform in the role of Surgical First Assistant under the direct supervision of the surgeon.
What You Will Do In This Role:
You will maintain certification and will stay current on all new practices and procedures of the role through continuing education. This position will be executed in addition to the current facility description of the O.R. tech.
You are expected to be able to perform proficiently in the first scrub and assistant position in at least four or more of the following specialties:
Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Cardiovascular, Plastic and Reconstructive, Obstetrics/Gynecology, ENT and General Surgery.You will work within the scope of practice for the non-MD First Assistant set forth by the American College of Surgeons and by OPRMC.
What Qualifications You Will Need:
Successful completion of course for education and training in surgical first assisting
Current national certification through one of the following bodies:
Liaison Council on Certification of the Surgical Technologist (LLC-ST), National Surgical Assistants Association (NSAA), or The American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA) or National Registry for Surgical Assistant (NRSA) required;
Excellent interpersonal skills required. Ability to achieve and maintain BCLS affirmation required.Minimum of five years of surgical scrub experience in a variety of surgical specialties including:
Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Cardiovascular, Plastic and Reconstructive, Gynecology, ENT and General Surgery required. Cardiothoracic surgery experience preferred. One year of experience as a certified first assistant required.
