Commercial HVAC Estimator

Temp-Con is seeking a detail-oriented and driven Commercial HVAC Estimator to join our growing team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates for commercial and industrial HVAC projects including plan and spec work, negotiated projects, design-build opportunities, and service retrofits.

The ideal candidate understands mechanical systems, can interpret construction documents with confidence, and works collaboratively with project managers, service teams, vendors, and customers to deliver winning proposals.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and addenda

• Perform quantity takeoffs for ductwork, piping, equipment, and accessories

• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing

• Prepare detailed cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors

• Analyze project risks and identify scope gaps

• Develop clarifications, exclusions, and value engineering options

• Participate in pre-bid meetings and project walkthroughs

• Coordinate with operations to ensure smooth handoff upon project award

• Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information

• Support service sales and retrofit opportunities as needed

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in commercial HVAC estimating or related mechanical construction experience preferred

• Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems including rooftop units, split systems, VRF, hydronic systems, and ductwork

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and mechanical schedules

• Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite

• Strong mathematical and analytical skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously

• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with design-build and negotiated work

• Field experience as a technician, installer, or project manager

• Knowledge of local building codes and mechanical standards

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred but not required

Competitive pay based on experience and qualifications:

• Entry-Level Estimator: $65,000 - $80,000 per year

• Mid-Level Estimator (3-7 years experience): $80,000 - $105,000 per year

• Senior Estimator (7+ years experience): $105,000 - $130,000+ per year
