This opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Technology, Commercial & Industrial Market Sector, supporting Distributed Network projects such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Clean Transportation, and Networks & Communications, while building critical civil infrastructure for today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. Civil Engineering Technicians contribute to the planning, design, and implementation of site development, including grading and drainage, erosion control, roadways, fencing, and underground utilities for these advanced industrial and commercial facilities.

This Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Senior Civil Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high-quality engineering deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects. Functioning in a lead technician capacity, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying site plans, grading designs, and utility layouts using advanced techniques in industry-standard design tools such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Bentley Micro Station.

Provides technical guidance, consultation, and training to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs. May supervise an assigned team of engineering technicians and support personnel by coordinating, overseeing, and guiding both conceptual and detailed design activities to ensure quality, efficiency, and alignment with project objectives.

In this role you will have the opportunity to:

• Functions as a senior engineering technician, technical design specialist, and/or supervisor
• Applies advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges within a specific engineering discipline
• Contributes to the development of innovative engineering solutions
• Uses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) with standardized procedures to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
• Provides consultation, training, and oversight to other engineering technicians to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with project standards

• Establishes and communicates appropriate design and graphic standards
• Reviews project requirements to determine correct formats and deliverable content
• Promotes quality and consistency across projects, groups, and sections
• Reviews design inputs to ensure alignment and consistency
• Ensures deliverables comply with applicable codes and standards
• May contribute to continuous improvement of design guides, standards, and processes
• May participate and lead process improvement and change management activities
  
  Manages drawing control and maintains historical project records
• Applies engineering principles and established design practices to complex designs
