ERM is seeking an experienced Managing Consultant, Scientist/Project Manager to play a key role in growing our business in our Overland Park, KS office. The ideal candidate will have experience leading wetland, biological field assessments and permitting projects related to renewable energy, transmission, or other capital project developments. Renewable energy experience is preferred. As a senior technical leader and project manager, you will manage permitting and/or due diligence processes, provide leadership in biological field surveys, conduct research to define permitting requirements, coordinate with relevant jurisdictions during permitting processes, develop permitting plans, and develop or coordinate permit applications. You will also be part of teams conducting National Environmental Policy Act compliance, Endangered Species Act (ESA) Section 7 & 10, state‑level equivalent reviews, and environmental permitting for large‑scale capital projects in the Great Plains, Midwest, and beyond.

• Manage and provide technical expertise on biological field surveys, habitat assessments, and species‑specific surveys including birds and bats.
• Lead preparation of local, state, and federal permitting documents. Contribute to preparing permitting deliverables, serving in roles ranging from lead technical expert to quality review. Manage project delivery activities such as report writing, data collection and survey field work, data and literature review, and development of recommendations for clients.
• Oversee multiple projects within client’s scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
• Prepare technical proposals, including development of technical scopes and cost estimates, and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads. Maintain client relationships to support repeat business.
• Collaborate with other ERM practitioners to execute Impact Assessment and Permitting (IAP) projects (services within our IAP service area include environmental impact assessment, land use planning, facility siting & permitting, and risk assessment). Experience with Eagle and Habitat Conservation Plans and Incidental Take Permits preferred.
• Supervise junior‑ and mid‑level consulting staff to develop their skill sets in technical planning and permitting.
• Be knowledgeable about current and projected projects being executed in the region, in order to assist with coordination of current staff, and identification of staffing needs.
• Understand ERM’s service areas and market strategy and participate in recruiting and interviewing efforts to build a strong and cohesive regional team.
• Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees locally, regionally, and nationwide.

• BS in biology, ecology, or the environmental sciences. MS preferred.
• +10 years experience preferred of due diligence and/or permitting experience, including consulting for private‑sector clients.
• High degree of technical competence and broad knowledge of biological field assessment and permitting practices, with a solid grasp of the key biological impact assessment and management issues for land development projects (e.g., wetland delineations, protected species assessment, stormwater management, and others).
• Experience with Endangered Species Act Section 10 and 7 including Incidental Take Permits, Habitat Conservation Plans, and/or Biological Assessments.
• Well‑developed teambuilding and influencing skills; unquestioned integrity; and the experience, confidence, and stature to effectively address client and business needs and challenges.
• Experience with federal, state, and local permitting in Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, or Oklahoma is strongly preferred.
