The Team

Black & Veatch’s Technology, Commercial & Industrial group focuses on advanced manufacturing, generative AI computing, gigafactories, bio/ag tech, data centers and distributed infrastructure. You will work on cutting‑edge technology with a fast‑moving team.

The Opportunity

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Function as a technical specialist or in a Project Lead role.
  • Lead delivery of design‑only, design‑build, and construction‑only projects in Electrical Engineering deliverables for Data Centers projects.
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise in Data Center design.
  • Offer technical guidance on client standards and expectations to engineering and technician staff during detailed design.
  • Collaborate with a network of engineers experienced in Data Center projects.
  • Build business relationships with clients to understand needs and drivers.
  • Coordinate with local electrical utilities on project technical needs.
  • Review supplier submittals.
  • Continuously learn and develop technical expertise in the specialty area.

This role will support projects primarily in North America. Candidates may be located near any Black & Veatch U.S. Regional Office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and provide guidance on design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and BV policies.
  • Apply and ensure compliance with BV quality program, supporting continuous improvement and change management.
  • Prepare complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects, including research, material selection, calculations, budget, schedule and quality management.
  • Coordinate with internal and external team members on moderately complex projects.
  • Identify and communicate client interests and drivers, and develop approaches to address them.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to project teams, design projects of moderate scope, and mentor lower‑level professionals.
  • Assist with performance management, mentoring, and succession planning.
  • May manage engineering resources for small groups and perform administrative duties such as approving timesheets and expense reports.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient in AutoCAD/Revit/BIM and willing to engage in diverse responsibilities.
  • Problem‑solving skills and ability to handle ambiguous scopes on a fast‑paced schedule.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Previous experience in Data Centers and/or Data Center Facility Design.
  • Understanding of design risk factors for redundancy and resiliency.
  • Knowledge of design differences in hyper‑scale, edge, and colocation data centers.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling and creating complex families in Autodesk Revit.
  • Familiarity with Data Center tier rating systems.
  • Experience with BIM 360, Navisworks, Revit work sets, view templates and project phasing.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments and deliver results on deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Experience analyzing data and metrics to challenge assumptions.
  • Use of AutoCAD/Revit/BIM and engineering study software for engineering tasks.
  • Strong professional communication skills for client interactions.
  • Leadership ability to manage project schedules, budgets and staffing.
  • Support business development, including scope‑of‑work development and site visits.
